Steven Silverman, President
Steven Silverman joined VHI in 2004 as a full time subcontractor. Within a year, Nelson and Steven developed a succession plan for Steven to buy the company, and Steven moved into the Sales /project manager role. From the beginning of their relationship, Nelson has mentored Steve in all aspects of sales, design, and business. The lessons continue. 2013 marked the first year of Steven’s ownership. When not at work, Steve enjoys time on his land, acting the part of a gentleman farmer. Alongside his wife Susan, and two teenagers, he grows food and micro livestock, and works to reduce his carbon footprint.
Nelson Shifflett, Founder
Nelson Shifflett is the founder of VHI, way back in 1991. Nelson has been involved in kitchen and bathroom remodeling since before electricity. He brings vast amounts of experience, knowledge and integrity to work each day. His design skills and business acumen are top shelf, and his devotion to clients and staff is second to none. Nelson is expected to retire in 2016. When not a work, Nelson is an avid outdoors-man and doting grandfather.
Mitch Parker, Production Manager
Mitch Parker is enjoying his second stint with VHI; during summer break from college he helped as a laborer. For the past two years, Mitch has been in charge of our Production Department. In this vital, never dull, position, Mitch oversees all phases of production, including staffing, scheduling subs, material ordering, and warranty issues. His multitasking skills keep jobs running smoothly and clients well informed. He grew up in Conway and now lives in Florence. Mitch enjoys running, the Patriots and most of all he loves to golf.
John Demerski, Weatherization Division Manager
John Demerski has been with VHI for five years. John was first hired as a carpenter, and has enthusiastically taken over the reins of our Weatherization division. John is responsible for client relations, managing employees, estimating jobs and scheduling production. John’s easy manner and organization skills are a real asset. John lives in Florence with his wife and son. During his free time he enjoys golfing, skiing and bicycling.
Steve Fifield, Lead Carpenter
Our longest serving and most experienced lead carpenter is Steve Fifield. Steve has been with our company for six years. Steve grew up in Hatfield and now lives in Whately with his wife and three children. As a lead carpenter, Steve’s many responsibilities include job site management, on schedule production, client satisfaction and working within budgets. During the summer months Steve is usually found racing his NASCAR modified race car and during the winter months he enjoys keeping his driving skills tuned up by racing go- karts.
Stephen Gross, Architectural Designer
Stephen Gross is our Architectural Designer. He has been with the company for four months. Stephen recently moved from Vermont to Greenfield after he married his wife in July. He spent the last four years serving in the Army. He has been a great addition to our company, bringing his architectural engineering degree to our customer’s projects, as well as a strong grasp of social media and advances in software design. When not hard at work he enjoys hunting, fishing and powerlifting.

Anne Day, Office Manager
Our office manager is Anne Day. She has been with the company for nine months. Anne grew up in Hatfield, and now lives in Florence with her husband and two sons. She comes to us with 17 years of experience in the construction field. Just a few of her duties are human resources and financial accounting, including payroll and job costing. In her spare time Anne enjoys quilting, knitting and watching her son play football and wrestle. She is also active in Boy Scouts with her husband and sons. All three of which are Eagle Scouts.
